5.0 out of 5 stars An eye opener to the racism in our world

The poems present the struggles and pains of African Americans and of all the people not considered white according to the "white people". I may be "white" skinned, but as a Puerto Rican, I'm considered either a black or a Mexican, according to Trump, and we are called also, and anyone of Spanish speaking descent, by the term of Spiks.
Racism has existed, and it will continue to exist, if we do not openly admit that we all are racist, consciously or unconsciously, it's not our fault but the system. We need more people like Gloria to speak up about the struggle of women and her universal rights, to speak and fight against racism and the condemnation of someone based on skin tone. No one is better than the other because of skin, but rather we are better when we treat others with respect, with dignity and above all, like a human being with feelings with universal rights. It will a long way and the fight will be hard and full of obstacle, but like them, I too dream of a world where no one will be judged based on skin color, nationality, physical disabilities and mental health problems.
Therefore, I applaud Gloria for showing bravery in defending what is right and for trying to open and educate people through her art.

Ms. Ogo really did it to me. The collection of poems, along with the narratives really got to me. It was more than an eye-opener. As a white male, it really made me think of my heritage, and how we raped the lands, and the people of the nations we colonized. Was colonization a good thing? Why is there racism? Why can't we just respect one another?
